We Work With The Best Manufactures To Give You The Best Solutions

Compound Short Spliced Belt Top Cover Most of the belts with solid (dense) rubber extra padding that Stiles supplies are mandrel built with seamless covers.

Stiles Slip Paw™ Seamless Fabric Unscrambler Belts are preferred over seamed designs because they don't have a cover splice where most unscrambler belts fail first. Stiles manufactures the unscrambler belts with splices when the belt size prohibits the seamless method, or when a cost issue takes priority. In the 1980s Stiles was the first to offer wrapped unscrambler belts and has more years of experience with these belts than anyone.

The majority of Stiles cellular rubber covered belts have a cover splice.

We carry a large inventory of seamless mandrel built solid rubber covers on metric and standard timing belts and flat belts in sleeves and precut sizes. Our stock addresses the requirements on many of the packaging machines with which we are familiar. Orders for these belts are either shipped from stock or slit to size and machined to specification.

Belts with seamless covers are preferred because they are bi-directional, and do not have a surface splice which can become a failure point. Transition from the base belt to seamless vulcanized covers is generally more consistent and stronger. Unfortunately not all covered belts can be made with seamless covers either because of cost restraints, delivery requirements, availability of materials, or compatibility between the base belt and the cover stock.

Below are the general splices used on our belt covers. Names may be different by other manufacturers.

The advantage of one joint over another on a particular belt is specific to a number of variables including pulley size, belt speed, tension, cover material, bonding method, belt and cover thickness, and the application. Often it is the result of trial and error to get the best combination for any particular application.

Benefit from our decades of experience and allow us to work with you to provide solutions for your requirements.

Seamless Rubber Top Covered Belts Seamless Belt Top Cover
  • Non Directional
  • Available on Mandrel Built and molded belts
  • Available On Slip Paw™ Fabric Wrapped Unscrambler Belts
Eliminates Potential point of failure at the cover material seam
Butt Splice Rubber Top Covered Belts Butt Spliced Belt Top Cover
  • Non Directional
  • Minimal Joint Cross Section for bonding
  • not as strong as other splices Depending On Bonding Method And Cover Material
Depending on cover material and type of adhesive can cause hard joint line which can be a negative for applications such as labeling pressure belts
Diagonal Splice Rubber Top Covered Belts Diagonal Spliced Belt Top Cover
  • Non Directional
  • Increased Joint Cross Section normally provides stronger joint than the cover Butt Splice Depending On Bonding Method And Cover Material
  • Depending on cover material and type of adhesive can cause hard joint line which can be a negative for applications such as labeling pressure belts
Short Skive Splice Rubber Top Covered Belts Short Skive Spliced Belt Top Cover
  • Directional
  • Increased joint Cross Section for bonding Compared To A Butt Splice
  • Reduced Hard edge compared to the cover material Butt Splice and Diagonal Splice
Long Splice On Top Covered Belt Long Spliced Belt Top Cover
  • Directional
  • Increased joint Cross Section for bonding Compared To Butt Splice, and short Skive
  • When used on Foam Rubber Acts Like A Hinge When Going Around Pullies Allowing Material To Collapse.
  • Can cause problems on small pulleys when joint adhesive has no stretch and cover material can not collapse Requiring Joint To stretch at pulley
